Encounter Ultimate official started with the MLK tournament in Duluth. We came into the weekend not sure how we'd do because we had a rough fall season with a record of 1-11. We brought Bees, Van Beck, Will Terry, Sam Harrower, Jake Gilk, Kyle Ward, Matt, Banks, Quinn met us there and me as well.
Our First game was against Cretin, and we just hoped not to be embarressd. We handled them fairly easily with a lot of hucks to Van Beck and Will Terry who's a very lanky 6'4". We next played Bemidji State and they were pretty bad as well and we beat them like 13-4, again with hucks to Van Beck and Will. Our next game was against the number one seed Duluth who has like 60 guys on their team. It was a pretty intense game with the score always within a point or two. Van Beck was pretty much unstopable in this game Catching more than half our points on hucks and getting D's on their hucks. Having Quinn out there was a huge help to us and he was the one hucking huge flicks to Van Beck. You could tell Duluth wasn't that worried about us at first and didn't seem to take us to seriously but after the firstfour points they realized that we were a little better than they expected. They're sidelines started to get into it and their captains were starting to call some of their better players onto the feild. I believe they took half 7-6. After half we rattled off three scores and had stellar play from all of the rookies.
I believe we won 13-11 but I can't quite remeber how it ended because I rolled my ankle pretty good.
It felt great to beat these guys cause they take it pretty seriously and do a lot of traveling to big tournaments and this is the first year of playing for over half of our team. That ended Day 1 with us winnig our pool.
